Established brands in the gaming sector always need to keep user engagement at an optimum level. Communication is at the heart of this effort, as gaming enthusiasts are always looking for more excitement. Fornite looks to have found its next big focus with the launch of Fortnite Creative 2.0  to further boost interactivity on the platform.

Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the history of online gaming. Combined with the reach of streaming service Twitch, it has become a recreational staple for teens and young adults.  This popularity is a massive opportunity for developers who can always find a ready market in the Fortnite user base.

Fortnite Creative 2.0 by Epic Games

Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite, has showcased its high adaptability in its few decades of existence. The developer has released Fortnite Creative 2.0, which seeks to leverage user-generated content (UGC) on a platform that could advance the development of the metaverse and such user-led platforms.

The metaverse is an area of keen interest for tech and financial firms- so much so that Facebook rebranded in 2022 as Meta. Banking giant JP Morgan projected that the metaverse could be a $1 trillion market by 2030, something gaming stakeholders like Epic Games noted.

Epic Games has released the beta version of Creatives 2.0 through its Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) for PC, which provides powerful tools and workflows to users. The goal is for any user to create quality games on Fortnite’s gaming infrastructure. Accordingly, Epic intends that users will take their love for the game to a new level and begin creating on the platform.

The gaming sector requires high-level investment to create anything that rivals high-budget games like Fortnite. Independent creators face this barrier to entry in replicating such levels of production quality, which locks out some of the creativity that can benefit this sector. Creative 2.0 seeks to decentralize the gaming development sphere and empower creatives with the requisite tools for high-level development.

The maps will be compatible with most systems, enhancing adaptability and interoperability. These are buzzwords typical in blockchain development, and the goal of the two is more aligned with this tool. In the long run, Epic Games aims to have users create AAA-rated games within Fortnite and will accelerate the release of all necessary tools in this effort.

As part of the release, improvements to Fortnite’s programming language, Verse, are in the pipeline. Verse also supports blockchain development and ensures that game creators earn 40% of revenue from the games they develop.

Gaming and the blockchain

Game development on UEFN is one of the most significant entries of blockchain concepts into the gaming space. The aspects of decentralizing development and using tools like Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to monetize content can transform this space.

Epic Games will also work toward ensuring users can integrate NFTs into their generated Fortnite Maps. This upgrade ensures that blockchain companies can integrate NFTs into Fortnite, which provides an incentive for game creators to monetize their content and have more development resources – with the goal being to have high production quality from Creative 2.0 users.

Fortnite is already a billion-dollar brand with hundreds of millions of active users. The onus will be on the game creators to improve use cases for the large market, with the democratization of this space being open to users at all levels of development expertise.

The blockchain sector can also showcase its versatility over and above speculative cryptocurrencies. Having tokens embedded in games is a direct way to increase utility and provide real-world applicability. Epic Games founder, Tim Sweeney, noted that support for NFT games would be provided as long as they “follow relevant laws and disclose their terms” with games like Blankos Block Party and four other NFT games already listed.

At the moment, Fortnite does not have plans to directly integrate cryptocurrencies as a payment option on UEFN, with the gaming studio taking more time to learn about the potential of crypto gaming.

To set the ball rolling, Epic Games has invested $30 million in Hadean– a metaverse infrastructure provider and raised $2 billion to hasten metaverse development. For users coming on board, Tilted allows gaming entrepreneurs to create creator content efficiently using a variety of creative modes. Using modern methods and leveraging experience in blockchain, virtual reality, IoT, and AI, companies provide the bridge an entrepreneur needs to communicate with new and existing users.

Innovation and Collaboration

A core theme of the gaming industry is constant improvement of technology. Innovations in AI and the blockchain are undergoing constant refinement by developers globally.

Fortnite Creative 2.0 is adding more possibilities for game creators to leverage their infrastructure and power a symbiotic ecosystem for all stakeholders. Game creators can leverage the expertise of marketing agencies to improve public awareness of their improvements and products.

Epic Games will have a balancing act between its centralized nature and on-boarding crypto enthusiasts. Regardless, the openness to leveraging new technology could be a historical opportunity for crypto firms looking to harness Fortnite’s huge user base.
